The Weekly Body Fat Calculator compares beginning and ending body-fat percentages and estimates the associated fat mass using the entered body weights. It reports the percentage-point change, estimated fat-mass change, and change in scale weight over the week.

This comparison is most useful when both measurements were taken with the same method under similar conditions. Consumer scales, calipers, and circumference formulas can shift with hydration, meal timing, and technique, so a one-week change may reflect measurement noise. The calculator records the math only and does not diagnose body composition or evaluate the safety of a weight-change plan.

Body-fat change (percentage points) = Ending body fat % − Starting body fat %
Fat mass = Body weight × Body fat % ÷ 100
Fat-mass change = Ending fat mass − Starting fat mass

Scale-weight change is ending weight minus starting weight. The calculation assumes each body-fat percentage applies to the weight entered for the same date.

What the result means

A negative percentage-point result means the ending body-fat reading was lower than the starting reading; a positive result means it was higher.

Short-term body-fat estimates can be strongly affected by hydration and method error, so trends across multiple measurements are usually more informative.

Given: Starting weight 180 lb at 24% body fat and ending weight 178.5 lb at 23.5%.

Calculation: Starting fat mass = 180 × 0.24 = 43.2 lb. Ending fat mass = 178.5 × 0.235 = 41.9475 lb. Body-fat change = 23.5 − 24 = −0.5 percentage points. Fat-mass change = 41.9475 − 43.2 = −1.2525 lb.

Result: −0.5 percentage points, about −1.25 lb estimated fat mass, and −1.5 lb scale weight.

Is a percentage-point change the same as a percent change?

No. A move from 24% to 23.5% is a decrease of 0.5 percentage points, not 0.5% relative change.

Can I compare a smart scale with calipers?

That comparison is unreliable because the methods have different error patterns. Use the same device or method for both measurements.

Why can body-fat percentage rise when weight falls?

Body-fat percentage is a ratio. Changes in water, glycogen, lean mass, and measurement error can alter the ratio even when scale weight decreases.

Should I react to a one-week result?

Use caution. One week is a short interval for body-composition measurement, and repeated standardized readings provide better context.

Does estimated fat-mass loss equal tissue fat lost?

Not necessarily. It is derived from two estimated percentages and weights, so both measurement errors carry into the result.
