Weekly Pace Calculator

The Weekly Pace Calculator combines the distance and elapsed time from all of your runs, walks, rides, or other distance-based sessions to find one weighted average pace for the week. Unlike averaging individual pace readings, it uses total time divided by total distance, so longer sessions contribute appropriately to the result.

Use the weekly pace to compare training blocks, check whether added mileage changed your overall speed, or summarize a mixed week with several session lengths. The tool also reports average distance and time per session. Pace is a planning metric rather than a medical or performance guarantee, and terrain, stops, weather, and measurement accuracy can all affect it.

Average pace = Total elapsed minutes ÷ Total distance

Pace (min/unit) = (Hours × 60 + Minutes) ÷ Distance

Average distance per session = Total distance ÷ Sessions
Average time per session = Total elapsed minutes ÷ Sessions

Distance must be greater than zero, and the time values must describe the same activities included in the distance total. The calculation is a weighted weekly average.

What the result means

A lower minutes-per-unit value represents a faster average pace for the week, provided the distance unit and activity type are kept consistent.

GPS drift, pauses, elevation, and mixed activities can make week-to-week pace comparisons less precise.

Given: 30 miles completed in 3 hours 15 minutes across 4 sessions.

Calculation: Total time = 3 × 60 + 15 = 195 minutes. Average pace = 195 ÷ 30 = 6.5 minutes per mile. Average distance = 30 ÷ 4 = 7.5 miles per session. Average session time = 195 ÷ 4 = 48.75 minutes.

Result: 6:30 per mile, with 7.5 miles and about 48 minutes 45 seconds per session.

The result summarizes the entire week rather than treating every workout as equally weighted.

Why not average the pace from each workout?

A simple average gives a short session the same influence as a long one. Combining total time and total distance produces the correct distance-weighted weekly pace.

Can I mix miles and kilometers?

No. Convert all distances to one unit before entering the total, then select that same unit in the calculator.

Should stopped time be included?

Use the time convention that matches your goal. Moving time is better for movement pace, while elapsed time is better for total outing pace; keep the choice consistent across weeks.

What happens if one session was a different activity?

The math still works, but the result may be hard to interpret because running, walking, and cycling paces are not directly comparable.

How should I use the weekly result?

Compare it with weeks that used similar routes, activity types, and timing methods. A single change does not by itself prove a fitness gain or loss.
