What the result means

The result is total estimated worker-hours. Crew-days divide that effort by eight and should not be interpreted as the exact calendar duration.

If several trades work in parallel, calendar time can be shorter than crew-days; if work must be sequenced, it can be longer.

Calculation:

Area units = 800 ÷ 100 = 8

Framing = 8 × 3.2 = 25.6 hr

Drywall = 8 × 5.5 = 44.0 hr

Finish + utility = 8 × 7.0 + 48 = 104.0 hr

Total = 25.6 + 44.0 + 104.0 = 173.6 hr

Result: 173.6 worker-hours, or about 21.7 eight-hour crew-days.

Interpretation: The finish and utility scope is the largest component in this example, so changes there have the greatest effect on total labor effort.

Why are the rates expressed per 100 square feet?

That keeps small productivity values readable while allowing the estimate to scale with basement size. Enter worker-hours needed for each 100 square feet, not dollars.

Where should I account for a new basement bathroom?

Add its plumbing and electrical effort to utility hours and increase finish or complexity assumptions if needed. A bathroom is usually too specialized to be represented only by floor area.

Do crew-days assume one worker?

They are equivalent eight-hour worker-days. Ten crew-days could be one worker for ten days, two workers for roughly five days of synchronized effort, or another combination depending on trade sequencing.

Should I include inspection waiting time?

No. Waiting time affects the calendar schedule but is not direct labor effort. Add it separately when building a construction timeline.
