Daily Sleep Calculator

This calculator turns a bedtime and wake time into nightly sleep duration and compares it with a personal target. It is useful for checking whether a planned schedule leaves enough time for sleep.

The calculation measures time in bed, not confirmed sleep. Time needed to fall asleep and periods awake during the night can be deducted for a more realistic estimate.

Seven-night total
  1. Enter the time you plan to go to bed.
  2. Enter the wake time; overnight schedules are handled automatically.
  3. Deduct expected sleep latency and nighttime wakefulness.
  4. Set your personal nightly target and review the difference.

Estimated sleep = time in bed − sleep latency − awake time
Nightly difference = estimated sleep − target

What the result means

A positive difference indicates the estimate exceeds the entered target; a negative difference indicates a shortfall.

Adults often need at least seven hours regularly, but individual needs vary.

Given: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 15 minutes to fall asleep, 10 minutes awake.

Calculation: 8:00 − 0:15 − 0:10 = 7:35.

Result: Estimated sleep is 7 hours 35 minutes.

Does crossing midnight cause an error?

No. A wake time earlier than bedtime is treated as the following day.

Is time in bed the same as sleep time?

Not necessarily. The calculator subtracts the delays you enter.

What target should I use?

Use a target appropriate to your age, health, and professional guidance.

Can naps be included?

Add nap time separately to the nightly result when evaluating total daily sleep.

Why is my weekly total only an estimate?

It assumes the same schedule is repeated for seven nights.
