Diet Pace Calculator

The Diet Pace Calculator converts distance and elapsed time into pace, speed, and projected finish time. It is useful for walking, running, or cycling sessions that support a diet plan, especially when users want a repeatable effort target rather than focusing only on calories.

The calculator supports kilometers and miles and keeps all calculations in the selected distance unit. Pace is an arithmetic average; hills, stops, weather, and interval changes can make actual segment pace vary.

Assumptions: The projection assumes the same average pace continues over the new distance and does not model fatigue or terrain.

What the result means

The result shows average time required to cover one selected distance unit.

Projection accuracy decreases when terrain, distance, or effort changes substantially.

Given:

  • Distance: 5 km
  • Time: 32 minutes 30 seconds
  • Projection: 10 km

Calculation:

Elapsed = 32 × 60 + 30 = 1,950 seconds. Pace = 1,950 ÷ 5 = 390 seconds/km = 6:30/km. Speed = 5 ÷ (1,950/3,600) = 9.23 km/h. Projection = 390 × 10 = 3,900 seconds.

Result: 6:30 per km; projected 10 km time 1:05:00.

The projection is a same-pace estimate, not a race-performance prediction.

Can I mix miles and kilometers?

Use one unit consistently. Convert the course first if the projection uses another unit.

Why does my watch show a different pace?

GPS smoothing, auto-pause, route measurement, and moving-time settings can change the displayed pace.

Does a lower pace number mean faster?

Yes. Fewer minutes per kilometer or mile means greater speed.

Can I use this for intervals?

You can calculate each interval separately, but the overall result is only an average.

Does pace indicate calorie burn?

Not by itself. Calorie estimates also require body mass and an activity-intensity model.
