Domestic Flight Calculator

The Domestic Flight Calculator estimates the complete airfare cost for a domestic trip, including the base fare, taxes, baggage charges, seat fees, and other airline add-ons. It supports one-way or round-trip planning by using the number of flight segments paid for each traveler.

The calculation is useful when a low advertised fare has several extra charges or when comparing airlines with different fee policies. The result shows the group total and average cost per traveler. It does not predict future ticket prices; use the current fare and fee information from the itinerary you are evaluating.

1. Enter fare per segment
Use the base fare for one traveler on one paid flight segment.

2. Count flight segments
Enter 1 for a one-way nonstop trip, 2 for a round trip, and more when connections are priced separately.

3. Set the traveler count
Include everyone whose ticket is part of the estimate.

4. Add taxes and charges
Enter the percentage applied to base airfare when a bundled final price is not available.

5. Add baggage and extras
Use group totals for checked bags, seat selection, priority boarding, and similar fees.

Base airfare = Fare per segment × Segments per traveler × Travelers

Taxes and carrier charges = Base airfare × Charge rate ÷ 100

Flight total = Base airfare + Taxes and carrier charges + Baggage fees + Other fees

What the result means

The result is the estimated total paid by the group for airfare and entered airline fees.

Many booking sites quote taxes in dollars rather than as a percentage. Convert the dollar amount to an equivalent rate or include it in Other fees.

Given: $160 per segment, 2 segments per traveler, 2 travelers, 18% charges, $120 baggage fees, and $80 other fees.

Calculation: Base = 160 × 2 × 2 = $640. Charges = 640 × 0.18 = $115.20. Total = 640 + 115.20 + 120 + 80 = $955.20.

Result: Estimated flight total is $955.20, or $477.60 per traveler.

What counts as a flight segment?

A segment is one takeoff-to-landing flight. A connection usually creates an additional segment.

Should baggage fees be entered per traveler?

Enter the combined baggage fees for the whole group and all segments.

Can I use the final checkout price instead of a tax percentage?

Yes. Set the charge percentage to 0 and place the difference between base airfare and checkout price in Other fees.

Does this estimate include transportation to the airport?

No. Add ground transportation to a broader trip budget separately.

Can this calculator forecast the best time to buy?

No. It totals the fare and fees you enter; it does not model airline price changes.
