1. Find the date-specific offsets
Look up each location’s UTC offset for the actual travel or meeting date, including daylight-saving changes.

2. Enter the origin offset
Use a negative value west of UTC and a positive value east of UTC.

3. Enter the destination offset
Quarter-hour and half-hour offsets can be entered with decimal values such as 5.5 or 5.75.

4. Set the origin local time
Use 24-hour time, with hours from 0 to 23 and minutes from 0 to 59.

5. Check the converted time
Review both the destination clock time and the previous/same/next-day indicator.

Time difference = Destination UTC offset − Origin UTC offset Destination time = Origin local time + Time difference

Clock arithmetic wraps every 24 hours. A result below 00:00 belongs to the previous calendar day, while a result at or above 24:00 belongs to the next day. Offsets must be the ones in effect on the relevant date.

What the result means

The large time is the destination’s local clock time corresponding to the origin time you entered.

Political time-zone changes and daylight-saving transitions can make the offset date-dependent.

Given: origin UTC+9, destination UTC−5, and an origin time of 18:30.

Calculation: Difference = −5 − 9 = −14 hours. Destination time = 18:30 − 14:00 = 04:30.

Result: The corresponding destination time is 04:30 on the same calendar day.

Why does the calculator ask for offsets instead of city names?

Offsets make the calculation transparent and avoid assuming a daylight-saving rule. Use the offset that applies on your chosen date.

Can I enter half-hour time zones?

Yes. Enter 5.5 for UTC+5:30 or −3.5 for UTC−3:30.

What does a negative difference mean?

It means the destination clock is behind the origin clock by that number of hours.

How are date changes handled?

The calendar-day row identifies whether the converted time is on the previous, same, or next day.

Does this account for daylight-saving transitions automatically?

No. You must enter the correct date-specific offsets for both locations.
