The Travel Carbon Carbon Cost Estimator converts a travel emissions total into a monetary carbon exposure using a carbon price that you choose. It can be used for internal carbon pricing, travel policy comparisons, scenario budgeting, or estimating the cost impact of applying a per-tonne charge to flights, rail, road travel, lodging, or a combined travel footprint.

Because carbon prices vary by market, jurisdiction, company policy, and scenario, the calculator does not assume a universal rate. Instead, it multiplies your travel footprint by your selected price per metric ton of CO2e and shows the cost per trip when a trip count is supplied. This makes it easier to compare lower-emission travel plans on a consistent financial basis.

What carbon price should I use?

Should the emissions input include only flights?

Not necessarily. It can represent flights alone or a broader travel footprint, as long as all included emissions are expressed in tCO2e for the same period.

What happens if I enter zero trips?

The total carbon cost is still calculated. The per-trip result is left blank because dividing by zero trips would not be meaningful.

Does this estimate the price of carbon offsets?

Not specifically. It prices emissions using any per-tonne value you enter; an offset purchase price is only one possible use of that input.

Why use carbon cost alongside travel spend?

A carbon cost can put emissions and financial planning into the same comparison. It may reveal that two travel choices with similar ticket prices have different carbon exposure.
