Since vineyards do not use a standard animal-style feed conversion ratio, this page treats “feed conversion” as an input-to-output efficiency measure and reports pounds of the selected input per ton of harvested grapes.

What the result means

The main result is the pounds of the selected production input associated with each US ton of harvested grapes.

Keep the input definition, harvest basis, and block boundaries consistent when comparing ratios. The metric does not account for input nutrient concentration or vineyard conditions.

Why is the result in pounds per ton instead of pounds per pound?

Vineyard harvests are commonly summarized in tons, so pounds of input per ton of grapes is easier to read. The underlying calculation still compares consistent mass quantities.

What qualifies as a production input for this ratio?

Use a clearly defined material or input category that can be measured by mass. Avoid mixing unlike materials unless the combined mass is intentionally the metric you want to track.

Can I use metric tonnes?

The input field is specifically US tons. Convert metric tonnes to US short tons before entering the harvest amount if you want the displayed ratio to remain valid.

What if the production input is zero?

The input-per-ton result becomes zero, but the inverse grape-yield-per-input ratio is undefined. The calculator displays the inverse metric as not applicable in that case.

Does a lower pounds-per-ton result prove better vineyard efficiency?

No. The ratio can change because input use, yield, weather, soil, vine age, fruit-quality targets, or management changed. It is best used as one consistent tracking metric alongside other agronomic and economic information.
